We sell, fabricate and install granite remnants in Charlotte, NC, along with quartz and other stone remnants, for bathroom vanities, bar tops and other small projects. A remnant is the usable piece left after a large slab is cut for a kitchen, so it costs less than buying a full slab for a small job. Availability changes as we cut, so tell us your sizes and we tell you what fits.

What a remnant is

What a Countertop Remnant Is and Why It Costs Less

When we cut a kitchen from a full slab, a usable piece is often left over. That piece is a remnant: the same stone, the same finish, just smaller. Because the slab was already bought for another job, a remnant is the most affordable way to put real stone on a small surface.

Remnants come from whatever we have been cutting, so they can be granite, quartz or quartzite. Sometimes that includes popular looks like our Taj Mahal quartzite or calacatta-style quartz, when a piece is available.

What fits

Projects That Fit a Remnant

If the surface is under about 6 feet long and has no seams, a remnant is worth checking first.

  • Single Vanity Tops

The most common remnant project, with the sink cutout and faucet holes made in our shop.

  • Bar and Coffee Tops

A short counter for a home bar or coffee station, often in a bolder stone than the kitchen.

  • Laundry Counters

A folding surface over the washer and dryer that won't mind water or detergent.

  • Fireplace Hearths

A single stone piece in front of the firebox, cut to size.

  • Shelves and Window Sills

Narrow pieces that match a bathroom or kitchen already done in stone.

  • Furniture Tops

A stone top for a dresser, side table or built-in cabinet.

Remnants at Cornerstone Countertops & Cabinetry start at bathroom-vanity size, and we fabricate and install them like any full slab. We install remnant tops up to 7 business days after measurement, and our written estimate, with the remnant's price, is ready within 2 business days. Our classic granite slabs start at $29.95/sq ft installed, and we are a Gold winner in Charlotte's Best 2024 and 2025.

Remnant or Full Slab? How to Decide for Your Project

A remnant saves money when the piece is small and stands alone. A full slab makes sense when pieces must match or the surface is large.

Measure Before You Ask: The Remnant Size Checklist

Exact sizes decide whether a piece fits. Send these numbers with your request and we can answer quickly.

Width and Depth

Measure the cabinet and add the overhang you want, usually about an inch on the front and open sides.

Backsplash Strip

Want a 4-inch stone backsplash? It needs its own strip, so add it to the size.

Sink and Faucet

Note the sink model and whether the faucet uses 1 or 3 holes.

Price and process

How Remnant Countertops Are Priced and Installed

FAQ

Granite Remnant Questions

Quick answers about size, price and availability.

What is a granite remnant?

A usable piece left over after a full slab is cut for a larger project. Same stone, smaller size.

Are remnants cheaper than a full slab?

For small projects, usually yes, because you don't buy a whole slab for a small top. Your quote names the piece and its price.

Do remnants include fabrication and installation?

Yes. We template, cut the sink opening and install remnant tops with our own crew.

Where can I buy granite remnants in Charlotte?

At our slab yard on Orr Rd, open Monday to Friday 9 AM to 5 PM and Saturday 9 AM to 1 PM. Ask the team which remnants are in stock that day.

Do you have quartz remnants too?

Often, yes. Remnants come from whatever we have cut recently, so granite, quartz and quartzite all appear.

Do you hook up the sink on a remnant vanity?

We cut the sink opening in our shop, but we don't do plumbing. Your plumber reconnects the faucet and drain.
