We fabricate and install waterfall island countertops in Charlotte, where the stone wraps over one or both ends of the island and runs down to the floor. The corners are mitered, cut at 45 degrees on our CNC, so the top and side meet in a thin line and the veins can continue around the turn. It is a signature piece for kitchens being remodeled or built new, installed with the rest of your countertops 7 business days after templating.

How it's made

How We Build a Mitered Waterfall Island

A waterfall is not a separate panel stuck to the end. We cut the top and each side from the same slab, in sequence, then bevel both edges at 45 degrees so they meet as one corner. When the pieces are laid out in order, the veins continue from the top down the side.

The same mitering skill lets us build thicker-looking edges and furniture pieces like a 4-sided mitered coffee table, so a clean mitered joint is part of what our shop does, not a special order sent elsewhere.

The real math

How Much Extra Stone a Waterfall Adds

Each waterfall side adds the island's depth times its height in stone. On an 8 by 4-foot island, 36 inches high, the top is 32 sq ft and each side adds about 12 sq ft, so two sides add about 75% more stone than the top alone. Your quote shows the exact price.

Four Decisions Before You Commit to a Waterfall

These choices change the look, the slab count and the price more than the stone itself.

One End or Both

One side against a seating end looks lighter; two sides make the island read as a solid block.

Bold or Quiet Veins

Bold veins show off the miter; quiet patterns make the island feel calmer.

Enough Slab

Top and sides should come from one slab or consecutive slabs. We check the yield first.

The Floor Comes First

Sides rest on the finished floor, so flooring must be installed before we template.

Cornerstone Countertops & Cabinetry miters waterfall kitchen islands on our CNC, matching the veining down each side, then polishing every exposed edge. Granite starts at $29.95/sq ft installed, the waterfall is its own line on your estimate, and the job carries our 1-year warranty on fabrication and installation. Our shop won Gold for Best Countertop Store in Charlotte's Best 2024 and 2025.

FAQ

Waterfall Island Questions

What homeowners ask before adding a waterfall.

What is a waterfall countertop?

A countertop that continues over the end of the island and down to the floor, joined at a mitered corner.

How much more does a waterfall island cost?

Each side adds the island's depth times its height in stone, plus miter labor. Two sides on an 8 by 4-foot island add 24 sq ft.

Will the veins match at the corner?

When the top and sides are cut in sequence from the same slab, the veins continue around the miter.

Can a waterfall be added to an existing island?

Usually only with a new top, since the side must be cut from the same slab to match.

Which stones work for a waterfall?

Quartz, quartzite, granite and marble all can. Long, flowing veins show the miter best.

Do I need the floor done before you template?

Yes. Waterfall sides rest on the finished floor, so flooring must be installed first.
